Speaker Bio:
Laura McCarthy, Deputy Chief
Bloomington Fire Department
I’ve been a member of the Bloomington Fire Department for 35 years. I started as a volunteer/paid-on-call firefighter and became a full-time Fire Inspector in 1998. In 2013, I was promoted to Fire Marshal. I’m currently the Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal supervising 5 fulltime Firefighter/Fire Inspectors responsible for new construction and remodel reviews, existing building inspections, public education, community engagement and fire investigations. I also have operational responsibility as a Chief Officer responding to incidents and assisting in the management of our combination department.
Presentation Description:
Strengthening Collaboration: Fire Protection Engineers, Architects & Fire
A short presentation on the importance of developing positive working relationships between protection engineers, architects, and fire departments. I will discuss the operational challenges that can occur when systems don’t contain the problem especially with limited to no emergency vehicle access or strong water supply.
Location Notes:
Parking and entry will be on the east (Nicollet Avenue) side of the station. We will be meeting in the large meeting room.
